FAMILIES across Blaenau Gwent can remember their loved ones this Christmas - by sponsoring a light on a special tree at Festival Park shopping centre in Ebbw Vale.

Every year, hundreds of people support the Hospice of the Valleys Light up a Life Appeal, which helps to raise thousands of pounds for the charity.

In return for making a donation, families can sponsor a light on the Christmas tree at Festival Park and have a message in memory of a departed family member or friend in the hospice's special Light Up A Life book.

The appeal is for anyone in the area who has lost a loved one, not just for patients and families who have used the hospice's services.

People can also enter a message in honour of someone who currently lights up their life.

Through December, the book is being displayed in the manager s office at the shopping centre and afterwards at the Hospice of the Valleys offices in Tredegar.

  • Christmas carol concert has been organised as part of the appeal, which will take place at the entrance to the shopping centre, at 7pm on Thursday, December 13.

The concert will feature Ebbw Vale Male Choir and the Cwm Salvation Army Band, as well as communal carol singing. Anyone is welcome to attend.

  • Leaflets for Light Up a Life are available in shops at the Festival Park Shopping Centre and at the hospice's charity shops around the county borough.
