A VICAR was presented with an award for his community work in Blaina and Nantyglo.
The Reverend Roger Hewett won in the category 'Leadership Success through Partnership' in the Leading Wales Awards.
Responsible for a number of social groups for the elderly, children and families, he has two churches - one built as a church and community centre for Blaina and another in Nantyglo.
The vicar and Arch Dean of Blaina Gwent has found money to employ people to run the clubs -which include the PALS after school club.
He is chairman of Blaina Community First, while he is also a governor of Nantyglo Comprehensive School.
Reverend Hewett said he was thrilled to win the award, and that the results seen in the area are the work of a team and not just himself.
He said: "Through our projects we are working to build the confidence and the capacity of the community to look after itself."
The award was presented at the Hilton Hotel, Cardiff on Thursday.
