Alsatian stolen from garden

A NEWPORT couple are devastated after their pedigree dog was stolen.

Rebecca Roberts, 22, and Craig Rendells, 30, are offering a cash reward for their beloved Alsatian puppy Kira, who was taken from the garden of their house in Duckpool Road, Newport.

Ms Roberts said: "We miss her dearly. She has not been picked up by the RSPCA or the dog warden and we can only assume that someone has taken her.Our other dog Blade is crying constantly for Kira. He is pining his little heart out.

Driving instructor Mr Rendells left the six-month-old puppy at 2pm on April 28 but was horrified to learn she had disappeared when he returned home at around 5pm.

It is thought local teenagers took the dog.

A local paperboy said he saw the fawn and black alsatian being taken and told the couple after seeing a poster appealing for the missing dog.

Ms Roberts said the gate was shut but the padlock was not bolted because they are currently fitting a new gate.

She said: "The dogs cannot get out by themselves. It is an eight foot steel gate with a great big lock. We have now put a fence 12 foot back from the gate so people can't get close to the gate and the dogs."

The couple have put up posters in Beechwood Park, in shops and pubs and on lamposts appealing for information.

Gwent Police have made door-to-door enquiries.

Ms Roberts, who has had both dogs since they were six-weeks-old, said: "They look intimidating and are often bought as guard dogs. But Kira and Blade are well-tempered."

A spokesman for the RSPCA advised all dogs to be fitted with a microchip or a collar.

He said: "We send our sympathies to the owners, any theft of a dog is illegal."

Although I appreciate the heartache involved for the couple concerned surely the police have better things to do (or have they ??? )

the police in Newport thrive on this sort of "detective" work. As above i have sympathy for the owners of this dog, but i expect more time will be spent on this, than say on a burglary or theft of a car. This also goes for the coverage given by the Argus

Well, there I was, minding my own business yesterday, walking down the street with a half-eaten ham and cheese panini in one hand. I partly blame the guy that I walked into (even though I didn't see him) and partly blamed myself for holding my panini with one hand. Needless to say, the said item hit the floor like ... well, like a dropped panini. Police are not looking for any other suspects or witnessess, so no more tax dollars will be spent.

I feel your pain my friend. But im afraid this is just one of a number of "dropped snack" incidents that have been occurring lately. I blame the breakdown in society as a whole for these incidents. Time was that if a snack was either dropped or in the process of being dropped some kind soul would dive in and save the item. Now however they are just left to drop and hit the floor like a piece of rubbish. Im sure if this was a packet of crisps or even a burrito then im sure the police would take a greater interest. But no-one seems to care about Panini’s or crackers these days. For sham.

Now come on you lot as much as it says the police done a door to door to you really think they did.
As for a kids saying they seen the dog being taken I very much dough that’s true
I hope they got around to micro chipping the dog.
If I see a little puppy Shepard ill be sure to return it. I won’t want any reward just a slight kiss would be nice though she is a cracker

Now the Panini sorry to hear about that. I would have picked it back up myself.
If no one were looking of course
But im sure the rats or stray dogs would have it in minutes

That's nothing, apparently Soth Wales Police have set up a special taskforce to deal with the growing menace of so-called "Happy Snacking", where gangs of feral youths approach innocent passers-by and get involved in physical altercations using various breadbased food items with no concern for their victims.
Last week in Duffryn a pensioner was threatened with a "Dairylea Lunchable", what caused outrage was that it was one of the ones with HAM!!!
The victim was traumatised and complained of crumbs in the turn-ups of his trousers.
We need to be aware of this growing menace and contact the head of this new taskforce Det. Inspector Billy Bunter with any information.

Don't have nightmares........

to be honest I would be thankful if someone stole my car but I regard my animals as my family. look at the publicity that surrounded madeleine. I dont think asking a local paper to run a report to help me to try to find my puppy is unreasonable. I know who took the dog from the garden and I know who has been trying to sell her to the public all weekend, I also know that he has dumped the dog in the aberthaw area. so maybe when we find her, I could lend her to you guys to help clear up the panini?!

Why on earth would someone want to dump a dog in Aberthaw... I wouldn't wish that on my ex-wife, let alone a dog.... Thanks for your offer though Bex21

"Happy Snackers" have struck again!
A group of youths attacked a Police Officer in the Alway area of Newport. He was set about by the youths wielding long crusty bread loaves. The officer was quoted as saying that the youths didn't have local accents, Police suspect due to the type of bread stick involved there may be a french connection. Luckily had the newly issued Lurpak defense kit and escaped with a few crumbs around his mouth.

The officer escaped with thick cuts,he said although the youths were of a commie apperance one of them had a upper crust accent.

thankyou Ceri, we seem to keep missing her by minutes. And ianzemma I dont think that is a very sensitive comment. My puppy is running around probably scared half to death, she has been through the hands of some dodgy characters thus far and quite frankly I just want to get her back. so all enjoy your bread based comments but I shall spend another few hours this evening traipsing the streets of the aberthaw area in the vain hope that the kids who were playing with her in the park on tuesday afternoon have her somewhere and are keeping her safe.

if the dog is seen wandering around on its own would it be safe? is it frendly imean as dont mean to be rude but some dogs can be nasty (wanted to know just incase its seen as dont want to go near if its going to bite me lol) o & ps food jokes are o so funny made me smile

dont worry she is very friendly, well used to children and other animals. Obviously she is still a dog all of which are capable of biting if provoked, but she is a very well tempered puppy.
she also comes to call, which is why I think she has been so easy to steal and the reason my other dog was left behind, not as easy to sell on being older and bigger. but I promise if she is treated kindly she will not bite.

Just curious Bex but being so few Alsatian around, can't the police prove this person stole the dog(microchipped), as they suddenly had a Alsatian overnight, espically if the paperboy said he saw them..

Mind I always thought the Staffordshires where the in thing for Chav's to steal..

I'v saw a loose Alsation around the back street between the 'Tom Toya Wetherspoons and the 'RGH' last week..

This Or to ask the obvious question, have any of you a big enough heart to be a caring owner in the first place!

Or they don't own Dogs or aren't Dog Lovers

Was this the dog that would bark aggresively at anyone who went past the black gates next to the newsagents in Duckpool Rd?
If so now my young son doesn't have to cross the road to avoid being scared to death when passing that particular stretch of Duckpool Rd.

no it is the younger dog who was stolen. the older dog does bark which is why we have built a fence to keep him away from the gate. He is actually very good with children, but is developing cataracts in both eyes as a result of repetitive trauma caused by local kids poking him with sticks and other sharp instruments through the gate. He will bark because he is expecting pain. the fence is now complete and he is no longer able to access the gate. so please dont judge an animal purely on its behaviour, there is usually a cause and a solution. my 3 yo nephew plays very safely with both of my dogs and I would be confident knowing they were in his presence.

MY GIRLFRIEND HAD TWO ROTTYS DUMPED ON HER, SHE HAS PUT THEM UNDER SEVERAL DIFFERENT AGENCIES FOR OVER A YEAR AND NOT ONE PERSON WANTS THEM.. THE BOXER DOG SHE FOSTERED WENT THE NEXT DAY TO A FAMILY WITH YOUNG CHILDREN

"The Master".... sometimes people genuinely care, I know I do. I don't think that Rebecca would be silly enough to meet with a stranger without somebody being with her!! Yet your comment on being careful about giving "temp" mobile numbers and email address is worth questioning (apologies sarah85, if you are genuine.. but the World is a nasty place)...

Myself personally, I love all dogs, whether big or small.... sometimes the sheer size of the dog may deter somebody from your breaking into your property... It makes me wonder if the dogs knew its perpetrator? Anymore news Rebecca?

I feel bad her Dog was stolen.. It's just Sarah is boarding on creepy.. I like small dogs, I dislike big dogs, as I have witnessed 4 people attacked by they so called friendly Rottys.. The stray Alsation I say the other day went for a Asian Boy.. There breed as Guard Dogs, walk into there house without the owner and we'd see how docile they are..

I do agree with you with regard to giving out your personal details..... especially when the mobile number was "temp"....

I can also understand why some people dislike bigger dogs... however, you must realise that no matter what size an animal is, they are just that... an animal ... I also believe that if a dog is trained and treated well it's temperment should be well balanced. I recently went to see some beautiful German Shepherd dogs... the mother was so beautifully friendly... I even met the Grandfather who, as my husband described him "as having a head the size of a sofa".... both were so mildly mannered, so friendly... if you respect an animal, it will respect you... sometimes they can turn, but usually when provoked.....

When I was younger, a Mastiff barged into my family home on bonfire night (poor little dab)... we all had to lock ourselves in the living room because he was distraught... eventually a police dog handler came, went down on his hands and knees, put his chin on the doorstep and waggled it from side to side, and this beautiful happy chappy came down the stairs wagging his tail without a care in the World!!! So just a little tip, if you are approached by a rather large dog and you feel afraid, cwtch down to their level, that way they won't feel intimidated by your stature..... let them get used to your scent, and more likely than not, they will be friendly (unless of course they have been brought up to kill!!!) I'm no expert, but it has worked for me...

If I am honest, I would say I too prefer border collies to alsatians, I inherited Blade when I moved in with my partner. but he is a very sweet animal who is great for a cuddle and thinks he's a lapdog. Having said that, I am experienced with animals and retrain ex racehorses as well as training our dogs, and believe no animal is 100% trustworthy. All of my animals are treated with the upmost respect, and strangers are introduced to all of them while beside me, be it dog, cat or horse. I cannot guarantee the behaviour of any animal as they have their own brains, all are unpredictable and I am not one that would leave a child unattended with any animal. Blade is very even tempered for the breed, but he is a big dog and is bred to guard, which is his job, so as gentle as he is with his friends, all strangers are introduced to him and a sign is on my gate that the dogs are loose. yet the girl that chose to steal my puppy still took the risk and went in with the dogs, coming out, may I add, completely unscathed. Perhaps I should get a jack russell, they seem infintitely less stable in temperament and perhaps she would not have been able to take Kira.
Please may I add that there is still no news on Kira since last Tuesday, there is a reward of £300 on her head no questions asked. Plus she is still in puppy chewing stage so is probably making a mess in someone's house, I do hope she isnt getting beaten. so if anyone knows where she may be, you all have my number so please get in touch. and by the way, OMG I really do look like claire wilkie!!!

'Ianzemma'... did you read Rebecca's last comment? Basically, NO animal is ever 100% trustworthy.... Rebecca obviously has experience handling and training animals, so why the negative comments when all she is trying to do is find her pup.... ???
