Man in knife threat terror

A CWMBRAN man spoke of his terror after he was threatened with a knife as he walked home.

Bernard Stanley, 52, was walking down an alley close to Greenmeadow Way, when he noticed two men close behind him.

He walked to catch up another man walking in front of him, and the two were approached by the men.

Mr Stanley, an electrician, said one man started "effing and blinding" and said he was looking for revenge for an attack on a friend earlier that evening.

When he told the man to go home, he pulled a knife out, which Mr Stanley said was around 12 inches long.

Mr Stanley backed away and rang 999 on his mobile phone and the men walked away, but he said the incident left him shocked.

"All he wanted to do was caused damage, not just sort something out and have someone, he really wanted to maim someone," he said.

Mr Stanley said the reality of the incident didn't hit him until he got home: "I thought ten minutes ago, perhaps I wouldn't be walking through the door. I was extremely lucky.

"I was more relieved that I got home safe and sound and didn't end up in the hospital or even worse."

PC Darrell Dewar said: "It's obviously concerning, Mr Stanley was indiscriminantly stopped by two males, even more concerning that one of them was carrying a knife."

The incident occurred on April 26 at around 11.30pm as Mr Stanley walked between Prospect Place and Greenmeadow Way in Old Cwmbran.

Both men are white and of slim build, one in his late teens and the second in his early twenties, was wearing a blue and white tracksuit top and blue tracksuit trousers.

Police are appealing for a second possible witness to come forward, who may have seen the two men in the vicinity of the Mount Pleasant pub.
