AN accident has blocked one lane of the motorway slip road at Tredegar Park this morning.

The crash happened at J28 of the M4 this morning and this is causing queues in this area.

Drivers are asked to approach with care and emergency services are on the scene.

I hope no-one was hurt. For me, this just shows we need fewer cars on the M4, and more investment in public transport.

There are so many accidents on that part of the M4 that cameras should now be installed there

The accidents aren't necessarily due to speed. Most of the time the problem is MSM - a many people would have it - 'Manouveur, Signal, Mirror'

No prizes for noticing that was a deliberate error...

I agree with the public transportation thing, however, we don't have any real proponents for public transport in SE Wales. SEWTA are just a bunch of hot air...

It would be nice it people driving from Cardiff to Newport on the A48 would use the correct lanes and not try to push in on the roundabout. This causes the rest of the cars to slow down and will lead to accidents.

I agree with Julian. Reducing the need to travel, and at the same time providing a much better public transport is the way forward.

Meanwhile, the Assembly Government and Newport City Council continue to deny 'peak oil'; and fail to acknowledge the need to make drastic cuts in our CO2 emissions.

In Newport, the car may be King today - but our leaders need to plan for 2010, when there will be less oil available, and a desparate need to build resilient and sustainable communities.

Very soon, one lane of M4 in each direction will be ample. Traffic speeds will be much less - and road traffic accidents will be a thing of the past. For me, that time cannot come soon enough!

Hey,
Good to see some sensible points on here.Makes a change from the usual "lets build more roads" lobby, each time there's a problem on the M4.
It's a shame Newport is getting excited about a world class event(The Ryder Cup),and not wanting to provide world class public transport to match it.

I would love to see world class public transport in Newport, in fact Wales. The most annoying part about the situation is that I can see that we have had ample opportunities to improve public transport in South Wales since Dr Beeching did his bit. However, those opportunities are dwindling as developers rush to buy land leaving little room for public transportation Networks that could be an effective way of emptying our roads.

As an example of the public transport attitude of Newport, look at the recent council elections, where a certain party that made immense gains, promised to repeal a large number of the improvements to public transport that the council had introduced... Need I say more?! Not a single councillor from Labour or the Conservatives mentioned improving public transport as part of their agenda... yet they receive the lyons' share of the votes...
