CARING pupils at a Newport school have appealed to the Argus to help raise concern about the future of the rainforests.
In well-written and eloquent letters, they describe the damage being caused to this precious part of the planet by people burning down the trees.
Year five children at St Patrick's RC Primary School have studied the issue as part of a science project and held a special assembly.
Georgia Louise Cook, aged 10, gave her reasons for saving the rainforests including the information that they included the plants which could cure diseases.
Georgia was also fearful for the people and animals that live in those areas as well as the threat to the earth's climate.
"I am very unhappy about this and worried about what the future will hold because of our actions."
Jamie Lee Cook discovered some alarming statistics which showed that 2.4 acres of rainforest was being lost every second.
"Rainforest are also known as the lungs of our planet. They give us oxygen and they take in carbon dioxide."
Casey Boswell also made an impassioned plea for us to be part of the fight to save the rainforests.
