A FORMER school in Gwent could be demolished to make way for a new housing development.

A planning application was submitted to Caerphilly County borough council to replace the former Hollybush School, in Banalog Terrace, Hollybush, with five town houses and ten apartments as well as a car park.

Willdig Lammie partnership, based in Newport, has submitted the application for the school site.

The proposed housing would comprise of a row of three bedroom terraces housing and a mixture of one and two bedroom apartments.

None of the proposed houses or apartments will be social or affordable housing.

If planning permission is granted, it is hoped worked on the site will start at the beginning of next year with a view to completing it in time for the Ryder Cup in 2010.

Owner of Willdig Lammie partnership, Robert Willdig, said: "We hope to take advantage of the views, the views from the site are lovely and since the bypass, this part of the valleys is more accessible."

Access is a problem, and who will be able to afford them,I can't see anyone from the village purchasing any of the properties. I believed that a policy was passed that more affordable housing was to be built for all those that have not been able to step on the property ladder.
