GRIEVING relatives of teenage girls who died in a mountainside crash are disgusted at thieves stealing tributes from their graves.

Ebbw Vale teenagers Katie Roberts, Kayleigh Parry, Danielle Caswell and Louise Jones all died when the black Vauxhall Corsa they were travelling in crashed on Llangynidr Road in November 2006.

The community was thrown into mourning and their graves at Ebbw Vale Cemetery are constantly adorned with toys, flowers and tributes to the girls.

But in recent months, the parents of the girls have been appalled to discover tributes and decorations from the graves are going missing.

Sian and Steven Roberts, Katie's parents, told the Argus: "I just don't understand how people could do this.

"We've been through hell and the graves are all we have left.

"It breaks our hearts."

Items taken include a pink toy sheep, which has since been returned, an Easter rabbit, 30 pence left at the graveside and other small toys and tokens from across the four girls' graves.

Mrs Roberts visits the cemetery daily.

She said: "It's important to us to keep the grave looking cheerful.

"We love the fact that so many people want to go up and spend time there and we wouldn't want to change that."

But, she said: "If it is children taking these things, then I don't think they shouldn't be allowed to run around up there on their own.

"And it if is adults, then it's just disgusting."

Mr and Mrs Roberts are now appealing for people who go to the cemetery to respect the families' grief.

And while they want people to keep visiting the graves and keeping their daughter's memory alive, they hope this cruel and distressing spate of thefts will soon come to an end.
