A BOY racer in Chepstow had his car seized after police caught him driving dangerously at the same spot twice in just 28 hours.

Police have run a month-long operation targetting boy racers and dangerous drivers in the town.

The operation centred on Welsh Street car park which has become a meeting point for young drivers some of whom are prolific offenders of anti-social behaviour.

Police say they have now identified some of the town's most prolific dangerous driving offenders.

One driver was issued with two section 59 notices within 28 hours, after he was caught driving dangerously twice in the same place.

His vehicle was seized.

Police also secured notices of intended prosecution against two motorists for driving without due care and attention, seized and crushed one vehicle for having no insurance and issued section 59 warnings to eight other drivers.

These notices are issued to people driving carelessly or inconsiderately and/or causing the public to fear for their own safety.

If a driver or vehicle is issued with two notices within 12 months, police can confiscate the vehicle. The driver can reclaim it by paying £120, otherwise it will be crushed.

Progress made by local police officers was welcomed by locals.

Ian Merrick, landlord of the Coach and Horses public house which also runs a bed and breakfast said: "I would say the problems have reduced by 75 per cent.

"There is less noise disturbance and my staff and customers now sleep easier and feel a lot safer."

Local resident Mike Price added: "We can now have our windows open in the summer without being disturbed by the noise of cars doing circuits of the town."

Sergeant Terry Lowman said: "Not only does this careless use of vehicles cause noise nuisance, but it also puts the driver, other road users and pedestrians in danger.

"Ultimately, driving irresponsibly could result in your vehicle being seized and crushed or worse still, present life-threatening risk."

Chepstow Neighbourhood Policing Team is now liaising with Monmouthshire Council to explore other ways of preventing and deterring such behaviour at Welsh Street car park.

Let's hope the police initiative in Chepstow will spread to Newport too.

The brats with noisy exhausts and playing loud music have obviously got more money than sense. They certainly have no regard to the environment or for other people.

Hey, Daftas - perhaps hanging would be being too easy on 'em?

You know, it STILL amazes me how boy racers are so blinded to the fact that they look ridiculous in their little toy cars. It really does not impress anyone I'm afraid.

And why do they ALWAYS soup-up girlie cars like those little Peugeots or Vauxhalls? Can't they handle real men's cars or something?

So yeah, the sooner these silly people are taken off the streets, the better.

Well at least the Police crushed one Chav's car, so due respect to them for that.. All they need to do now is crush the car of the vermin whom this story is about

COMMON SENSE PEOPLE!You dont have to hang these boys, raise the age limit for drivers to 25yrs, most boys would have grown up in the head by then and realize that driving a car is like holding a gun. Not like how MOST think now, as if there on the dodgems at fairgrounds!!!

My cars a bit nippy, looks a bit flash but I love how quiet it is. If a car of mine ever sounded like some of these boy racers, the first place I would head for was Kwik Fit!

i think you are being unfair to cwmbran police.my neighbour put a load of spikes on my garden fence to stop our cats walking on it.so i removed them and threw them in his garden saterday night they came to arrest me for theft and damage.this was about the same time as the boy racers are screaming up and down cwmbran drive.

ciderdrinker under the new legisaltion last year regarding animal welfare it was an offence to plan to hurt animals which your neighbour new this would do.
Perhaps you should be naking gwent police aware of this.
Don't hold your breath though they seem to do as little as possible unless they can get a surefire conviction. Lazy and sloppy force.

Ciderdrinker the law was on your neighbours side and I myself know that one can place spikes on ones own fence, and if this fence was your neighbours boundary you were breaking the law by removing them. Cats yuk, dirty, leave mess everywhere except their own gardens, so I for one would place anything to prevent them getting on to my property. And the boy racers need same treatment, they should have their cars crushed.

Could i ask you not to tar us all with the same brush i have just turned 22 and have a bmw 1 series, before that i had a 2L laguna, and i am not a boy racer, never have been, I would like a nice car to do up but even if i had one, i would not use it on the roads late at night, It Pi**es me off when some boys race up and down my street on a evening, and wake my little boy up because the bass is so loud that surely the drivers ears bleeding, sure i like loud music in the right time or place, but know my limits, and have respect for others around me.
