A TEENAGE girl raising funds to carry out charity work at an African Aids orphanage is to go bald in a bid to achieve her fundraising target.

Caitlin Baglow, 15, from Penrhiw Road, Risca is aiming to raise £6,000 with her friend Bethan Trevett, 17, of Ty-Isaf Crescent, Pontymister.

The pair are due to spend the summer carrying out charity work at an Aids orphanage in Tanzania.

Now, having already raised £5,000 Caitlin is to undergo a charity head shave to raise the last £1,000 they need.

She is appealing to people to come to Newport Centre today between 10am and 4pm to donate any amount, large or small, to help her reach the target.

Caitlin said: "I'm quite excited, but also really nervous.

"I've always had quite long hair so it will be quite a difference."

But, she added: "At least it will be quite practical when I'm out there, to have my hair short."

She hopes as many people as possible will come and watch the shave to support her.

The headshave itself will take place at 2.30pm.

The girls have called their mission Project Tumaini (Project Hope, in Swahili) and set up a MySpace site to help spread the word at www.myspace.com/pro-ject_tumaini.
