Police investigate suspicious death

GWENT Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 51-year-old woman in Brynithel.

The body of the woman, who has not been named, was discovered by paramedics around 5.30pm yesterday when they answered a call to a house at 29 Mount Pleasant Estate. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection the death. The coroner has been informed and a post mortem will be held later this weeek.

Detective Superintendent Geoff Ronayne said: "This is an extremely rare and isolated incident in this area and I would like to reassure the community that we have a full team of officers dedicated to this investigation."

He also appealed for anyone who was in the vicinity of the 29 Mount Pleasant Estate between 8am and 6pm yesterday, Saturday November 28, to contact police on 01633 838111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

"They could have vital information that could assist us," he said.
