THREE CWMBRAN teachers are set to take on the challenge of a moonlight marathon in aid of a good cause.
Blenheim Road Community Primary teachers, Tracy French and Elizabeth Thomas, alongwith Ann Roberts, headteacher of Penygarn Primary, are taking part in the Moonwalk in London on May 16 to raise money for breast cancer charity Walk the Walk.
Mrs French, who is deputy head at Blenheim Road, said: “We’ve had staff in this school who have lost family to breast cancer. I’m a runner so I knew about the event and I asked Liz and Ann if they’d join me.”
The trio have been training for the 26.2 mile walk by meeting up three times a week for a walk and then doing a bigger walk at the weekend.
Mrs French said: “We’ve got to raise £200 each, but we’re hoping to raise more. It’s the first marathon any of us have done. We’re really looking forward to it.”
Walk the Walk was founded in 1996, when 13 women power-walked the New York City Marathon in their bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. More than 15,000 women take part in the London Moonwalk every year.
