TWO road projects in Blaenau Gwent are set to share an £80,000 transport grant.

Work on the A4046 Cwm Relief Road will receive a £30,000 funding boost and a safer route to Abertillery Primary School will get £50,000 if Blaenau Gwent council executive members agree they are the best roads to benefit from the Assembly’s grant.

An application was made for £60,000 to be spent on improving the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road, which included new plans for direct access from the A465 to Tarfarnaubach Industrial Estate.

No funding has been allocated for this scheme because the application guidelines stated bids for new projects would not be accepted.

The Community Road Safety scheme also failed to receive any funding because there was not enough community involvement in developing the scheme.

Both these projects also suffered from there being too much demand for the available funds.

The two chosen projects will be funded in full if the recommendations are approved at a meeting of the council’s executive on May 13.

The council said the ongoing development of the Ebbw Vale Railway will be provided from a separate pot to the Transport Grant in the future.
