4,000 people turn out for folk festival

MORE THAN 400 morris dancers performed along the streets of Chepstow at the weekend as part of the Two Rivers folk festival.

Around 4,000 people attended the three day family event at Chepstow race course with many of these camping out at the third annual festival too.

Among the acts performing were Five Furious Fish, One String Loose and Seth Lakeman as well as the 29 teams of morris dancers who performed throughout the town over the three days.

One of the festival’s directors, Mike Lewis said: “The main thing which people have been saying is how brilliant the atmosphere of the festival has been.

"There have been many highlights but, in particular, the morris dancers were fantastic and made sure the whole town was awash with colour and excitement.”

Mr Lewis thanked the festival staff as well as the local area and local businesses who had all donated time and money to help ensure the festival was a success.

He said: "We couldn't have done it without their support and are now really looking forward to doing it all again next year."

I tried Morris dancing but kept falling off the bonnet. So I tried tap dancing and fell in the sink. Finally I gave up and tried line dancing. And guess what? I was hit by a train.
