HUNDREDS of people defied the cloudy skies to enjoy the fifth Rogerstone Village Festival.
Despite the gloomy forecast, visitors flocked to Ty-Du Welfare Grounds, Tregwilym Road, on Monday for the annual event.
With everything from fairground rides and craft stalls to dog agility demonstrations and cheerleaders, there was something to entertain everyone.
Cross Keys Silver Band and Rogerstone Silver Band entertained the crowds entering the festival, and there were also performances of Irish dancing, Morris dancing and belly dancing.
Val Dudley, a member of the festival committee, said: “It was a bit of a slow start and we were a bit worried about the weather, but it turned out well. It’s possible that we’ve had more people attend than ever before. There was a nice atmosphere and we can’t ask for more than that.
“This is something we do every year and every year we build on what was done before. We’re hoping to give some of the funds made back to local charities.”
Children made the most of inflatable slides and bouncy castles, as well as getting their faces painted and indulging in a bit of candy floss, while parents perused the various stalls.
Organised by Rogerstone community council, the festival is in its fifth year after it was resurrected in 2004.
