AN OAKDALE teenager was crowned the best drummer in Caerphilly after keeping his beat at a regional competition.
Oakdale Comprehensive School pupil Jacob Moseley, 13, was the overall winner in the drums category at the Caerphilly County Borough Schools Contemporary Musician of the Year awards on November 21.
More than 140 singers, bass guitarists, drummers and composers battled it out in front of a panel of judges at the Caerphilly Music Service’s offices in Pontllanfraith.
Jacob has been playing the drums for four years and hopes to join a rock band as a drummer and compose his own music when he is older.
He said: "It was the first competition I’d entered and I was really surprised to win.
"I was really nervous and my adrenalin was going because I really wanted to win."
Blackwood Comprehensive School pupil Luke Elsemore was the overall winner in the bass guitar category and Kaysha Wilson from Newbridge Comprehensive won the years ten and 11 singing category.
