THREE pieces of disused land in Caerphilly borough could be used for leisure by the community.
Sites in Hafrodyrynys, Pontllanfraith and Croespenmaen have been allocated for leisure use in Caerphilly council’s plans for local development up to 2021, which is currently being reviewed by the Planning Inspectorate for Wales.
If the plans go ahead, the council-owned old landfill site in Hafrodyrynys will be converted into a playing field at the cost of around £500,000, for which the council may apply for external funding.
Two pieces of land at Pendinas Avenue in Croespenmaen, near Crumlin, and Hawtin Park in Pontllanfraith have also been earmarked for leisure.
Both sites are privately owned, but would become protected from development by the council if the plans are given the green light.
The council feels the land is needed for use as an open space for residents living in an otherwise built up area.
The 5.5-hectare piece of land in Pontllanfraith is currently allocated for housing and the 1.35-hectare piece of land in Croespenmaen is not currently allocated for any sort of use.
The council’s local development plan was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for review on October 7.
The review will be completed by October next year.
