Chepstow kidney campaigner’s funeral date set

BATTLER: Chris Lewis BATTLER: Chris Lewis

THE FUNERAL of a Chepstow grandfather who campaigned for all kidney patients in Wales to be given a life-prolonging drug, will take place on January 25.

Chris Lewis, 56, of Orchard Rise, Pwllmeyric, died at home on Wednesday, January 6, after a battle with kidney cancer.

Mr Lewis campaigned to end the so-called postcode lottery for the drug Sutent which can extend the lives of kidney cancer patients by up to two years.

The grandfather-of-five petitioned the Assembly after learning the drug was not available to everyone in Wales.

He was first diagnosed with the illness in May 2008 and was told the devastating news in August last year that he only had months to live.

Mr Lewis’ funeral will take place at St Mary’s Church in Chepstow on Monday, January 25 at 12pm.
