CHARGES at one of Gwent's biggest tourist attractions are set to increase.
Newport Council is proposing to increase admission and hire charges at Tredegar House and Park, due to "challenging trading conditions" during the past year.
At the moment, entry to the house is £6.25 for adults and £4.65 for concessions. The proposed increased would see the prices rise to £6.50 and £4.90 respectively.
The 17th century house, which was home to the Morgan family for generations, can also be hired out for events such as wedding and other functions.
Under a plan to increase revenue at the Grade I listed building, charges for wedding ceremonies would increase from £650 on weekdays to £700 and £695 to £750 on Saturdays.
There are no proposals to increase any other hire charges at the house, which included park hire for filming and events etc.
Parking charges of £1.80 per day will also stay the same.
Anyone opposed to the plans put forward by the cabinet member for leisure and continuing learning, Mike Hamilton, has until 4pm today to call in the decision for debate, otherwise the plan will be implemented at noon tomorrow.
The council hope the move will increase its income by £1,781 in the 2010/11 financial year.

Have they ever considered, for example, targeting the high net worth market with evening banquets (with all the trimmings), black tie balls and the like?
