A NEWPORT school welcomed a championship football star to help light up its astroturf pitch.
Rougemont School recently installed premier-league standard two-kilowatt floodlights after securing a £15,000 grant from the Sports Council for Wales.
Cardiff City striker Warren Feeney joined Rougemont Junior School's football team for a practice session on Monday to celebrate the switch-on.
The new lights are making the school's pitch and multi-use sports facilities more available to pupils and local community clubs during the winter months and since their installation the school's astroturf has been fully-booked on weekday evenings.
Headteacher Jonathan Tribbick said: "Our sports facilities have always been particularly popular during the lighter summer months, but local sports clubs would always have to find alternative venues to practice after daylight hours in the winter.
"With the help of the Sports Council for Wales and our patrons, we're delighted that we can provide such high-quality sports facilities to our pupils and the rest of the community."
