Chepstow woman eyes Miss Wales crown

THIS Chepstow woman will be competing to be named Miss Wales this summer after winning the crown of Miss Monmouthshire - not bad for a competition she entered "on a whim."

Sophie Webster, 17, decided to sign herself up after hearing about the competition, but said she did not think she would walk away with the title.

She said she wanted to get involved in this competition due to its close links with the Joshua Foundation, a charity which provides holidays and activities for children with terminal cancer and their families.

Miss Webster of Dean Gardens, was crowned Miss Monmouthshire at the finals held at Abertillery's Metropole Cultural and Conference Hall on Friday.

Contestants had four rounds to impress the judges, an interview before struts done the catwalk in jeans and a T-shirt, a little black dress and an evening gown.

Miss Webster, a Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls pupil said: "The girls I was against have all done beauty pageants before, I was so happy when I won but more excited for Miss Wales than anything."

She will now compete for the Miss Wales title on June 26 in Cardiff.
