A MAN was left with multiple facial fractures after being attacked in front of his wife by a teenage boy in Newbridge.
The 56-year old victim was assaulted outside the Londis off-licence store in Treowen Road on Saturday evening.
The attack happened at around 7pm after the man challenged the boy, thought to be aged between 15 and 17, for being abusive to the shopkeeper.
Iftkher Ali, 40, was working behind the counter and owns the business with his brother Waris Ali.
Waris Ali’s wife, Alia, who also works at the shop, said the teenager tried to buy cigarettes but was refused by Mr Ali because he looked too young.
Mrs Ali said the teenager then started racially abusing Mr Ali.
She said the victim told the teen not use that type of language, adding: "The teenager and the man both left the shop but within about five seconds of leaving the man was back in the shop with blood all over his face.
"He was saying the young boy had hit him. He was with his wife who called an ambulance. We have been here for 11 years and this is the first time we have experienced anything like this."
The victim was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital and was still there as the Argus went to press last night.
Mrs Ali said they did not recognise either the victim or the offender as regulars at the shop.
The attacker is described as white, 5’ 5” to 5’ 7” tall and of a stocky build. He had medium length, fair, wavy hair which was short on the side.
