THE by-election to fill the seat vacated by a Valleys councillor who resigned will be held in July.
Independent Blackwood councillor Kevin Etheridge, who was first elected as a county councillor in the town in 1999, quit last month for "personal reasons."
Now, after a requisition was made to Caerphilly council to hold a by-election, the date has been set for July 8 to comply with the 35-working day timetable.
The list of nominees who will contest the seat will be published on June 15, but former Blackwood town mayor Andrew Farina-Childs and former Blackwood town and borough councillor Nigel Dix have expressed an interest in fighting for the place for Plaid Cymru and Labour respectively.
Mr Etheridge stepped down saying he wanted to focus more on his family.
His announcement followed the death of his 89-year-old father Ken in March and Mr Etheridge also frequently travels to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London where his grandson is getting treatment for a genetic condition.
