A CHARITY set up in memory of an Abergavenny soldier boosted their fundraising amount with a charity fashion show on Sunday.

The American-themed show, at the Angel Hotel, raised funds for The Richard Hunt Foundation.

The charity was set up in memory of Pte Richard Hunt who died in August last year after serving in Afghanistan with 3rd Battalion The Royal Welsh and helps injured Welsh service men and women and their families.

The Welsh Warrior “Operation New York, New York” saw 30 professional models grace the catwalk with designs by Abergavenny traders featuring summer dresses, ball gowns, cocktail dresses, shoes, bags and jewellery.

Around 100 people watched each of the two showings and the day was also attended by Pte Hunt's mother Hazel Hunt and Monmouth MP David Davies.

The day also included a business exhibition opened by Miss Wales - the very first to be held in the town.

Organiser Vivienne Sharman-Lewis said she hopes to hold other fundraising events later in the year including a fashion show in the autumn and next spring to raise even more money for the Foundation.

Pte Hunt's sisters, Jayne and Fe Hunt, helped to raise £2,500 for the charity recently when they faced their fears and took on the challenge of a parachute jump.

The sisters did the parachute jump on July 3 in Salisbury with the Pilgrim Bandits - a group which organises various challenges to raise money for forces charities including The Rifles, Talking 2 Minds, The Undentable Trust and The Richard Hunt Foundation.

Jayne, who said she was terrified of heights beforehand, wore one of her late brother’s t-shirts on the day to give her some extra moral support.

Those who took part in the jump raised £2,500 for the Abergavenny-based charity which has raised thousands of pounds since it was launched in November.

The Pilgrim Bandits are organising a similar parachute jump at Netheravon on September 25.
