FORMER FBI and CIA agents will be among the guest speakers at an “e-Crime summit” marking “e-Safety week.”
According to e-Crime Wales, online crime costs the Welsh economy £393million a year and so the organisation is running a week of events aimed at educating internet users from across Wales in a bid to combat the growing problem of internet crime.
One of the main fixtures in the annual event is the e-Crime Summit at the Celtic Manor, which takes place tomorrow.
Ex-CIA agent Richard Hollis will share his knowledge on how to remain secure on social networks and ex-FBI man Ed Gibson will talk about emerging patterns of cyber crime.
Experts from Facebook and Microsoft will also discuss online privacy and protection.
Dedicated police liaison officers have been giving talks about the rise of internet threats to crime investigators and school liaison officers throughout the week.
The training sessions include practical lessons on how developments in online social networking are effecting policing and how crime can be tackled with internet investigations.
Headteachers are being given e-Crime Wales’s “dummie’s guide to e-Crime prevention” as well as being invited to an e-safety in education event.
On Friday, the focus will shift to hotels, guest houses and tourisim businesses offering free Wi-fi and the problems that can arise from offering unsecured networks.
