Pardon for World War I hero

A GWENT man says he is "elated" after a UK Government decision to pardon his great uncle, who was shot after being accused of desertion during World War I.

Posthumous pardons were granted to 306 British soldiers in the same position as Private Bernard McGeehan, 30, who went missing for more than six days in 1916 after surviving a battle.

John McGeehan, of Wainfelin, Pontypool, said he was 'elated' the the name of his great-uncle had been cleared.
