Cwmbran man racially abused doorman

A CWMBRAN man racially abused a doorman who intervened when he was rowing with his girlfriend, a court heard.

Luke Brown, 21, yelled racist insults at Imrhan Hussain, who works at the town's John Fielding pub, Newport Magistrates Court was told.

Prosecutor Claire Burton said Brown was walking into the beer garden at 1am on November 13, arguing with a woman who told him not to touch her.

She approached Mr Hussain and asked him to keep Brown, of Wayfield Crescent, away from her. He asked Brown to leave the area and was met with abuse.

As the pair walked outside, Brown threw a punch, missing Mr Hussain and losing his balance and falling over. Mr Hussain went to ground to restrain him, prompting Brown to repeatedly call him a “Paki” and shouted "let the Muslims burn."

While the two were on the floor, Brown bit Mr Hussain's right thumb, locking his jaw and causing a gash to the digit.

Brown was found guilty of racially aggravated common assault on March 10 after denying the charge.

Defending, Jamie Campbell said Brown knew this conviction represented a mark on his character.

Brown was given a 12-month community order, ordered to do 150 hours unpaid work, which was increased from 100 hours due to the racially aggravated factor, and must pay £100 compensation to Mr Hussain and £675 costs.
