PUPILS at a Newport school got a taste of India when they enjoyed a Welsh and Indian food festival.
Children at Malpas Court Primary School were able to enjoy food products from around Wales and India, comparing tastes and textures, with all pupils encouraged to give everything a try.
Newport West MP Paul Flynn opened the festival on Friday by cutting a ribbon and greeting the children in Welsh. He joined them on picnic blankets to try the food.
Much of the food was donated by local businesses such as Chic Chocolates, who gave Welsh chocolates with the school logo on. Welsh cheeses came from Blaenavon and Indian bhajees and pakora were given by Tiffins Restaurant.
The food festival was organised by the school’s international co-ordinator Ceri Rawlings and healthy schools co-ordinator Clare Harvey as part of its ongoing partnership with schools in Jamshedpur in India, through the UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) project.
