A GROUP of Blaenavon teenagers have set up their own music promotions company to give youngsters something to do in their home town.

Seven teenagers set up Salvador Promotions after securing a £2,500 grant from The Princes Trust.

The group, with members aged 16 to 18, will now use their company to organise gigs promoting local talent and provide entertainment for other youngsters.

Organiser Emily Michalik-Denny, 16, said: "The idea was to promote local talent in the area because there's not a lot going on for young people, and to offer affordable gigs because normally they're expensive."

Salvador, who meet at The Pavilion in Blaenavon, have used their funding to buy gig equipment, marketing, and merchandise, and have now set a date for their first gig on August 26.

Their launch night will be in Blaenavon Workmens Hall, with local band The Guns headlining.

Miss Michalik-Denny said Salvador hoped to put on at least four concerts a year, and that their decision to try and do something for young people in the area would set a good example.

She said: "It's been a fantastic opportunity and we have been learning a lot. We're hoping to provide something for young people around here, but to inspire young people as well."
