A MAN died in a house fire in Newport today.
Police and the fire service were called to a house in Tewskesbury Walk, Shaftesbury, following reports of a fire.
Gwent Police were called at 11.40am and when officers arrived at the house, they found the man dead. The fire was out before officers or the fire service arrived.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Malpas and Maindee were sent to the house at 12.03pm following a report of a fire in the bedroom.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious and a post mortem examination and formal identification of the man is expected to take place tomorrow.
