Cross Keys students bring Frankenstein back to life

BROUGHT TO LIFE: Students at Coleg Gwent during rehearsals for their take on horror classic Frankenstein BROUGHT TO LIFE: Students at Coleg Gwent during rehearsals for their take on horror classic Frankenstein

Cross Keys campus helped create a monster for a modern take on classic horror Frankenstein.

Second year drama students are bringing the monster back to life for an upcoming production and theatrical make-up students were tasked with transforming the cast with their skills.

The performances will be closely based on Mary Shelley’s novel, but with a few additions to the plot.

Performing arts lecturer Viv Goodman said: “The play is very closely based on the novel, but we’ve linked the core strands of the play – for example the relationship between science and nature – and added more recent science such as cloning into the mix.”

The traditional green monster has also been updated with a bolt through its neck while students watched Robert De Niro’s film portrayal of the monster for inspiration.

There will be matinee performances for schools on Wednesday, February 1, and Thursday, February 2, followed by workshops and an evening performance on Thursday, February 2 at 7pm.

Performances will be in the Cross Keys campus theatre in X Block.

Tickets are available from the drama office on 01495 333472.
