AN ABERGAVENNY school will have the chance to expand opportunities for its learners thanks to kind-hearted members of the community who helped fund a new £15,000 minibus.
The town’s Rotary club, Round Table, Alun Griffiths Contractors and local community councils are among ten organisations who all donated to the campaign by Deri View Primary School.
It was launched in May 2011 because the old minibus was draining the school finances, costing around £3,500 a year just to keep it on the road.
The school needed a new one to take children to sport matches and on educational trips, while other community groups based there also require transport.
Jeanette Butt, secretary of the Jigsaw group, which cares for children with special needs, appealed to local organisations for help.
“We were very surprised, in a good way, as we didn’t expect people to be so generous and so quickly,” she said.
“They were just turning up at the door handing us cheques.”
The school recently welcomed in its donors to say thank-you with a special celebration day.
