A FORMER care home near Abergavenny is up for sale more than a year after it sold at auction.

Triley Court in Pantygelli was home for 26 residents with long-term mental illness and learning disabilities until it closed in 2010.

Craegmoor Healthcare, owner of the 43-bedroom property on Old Hereford Road, decided to sell the estate because it was no longer appropriate for the residents, who were re-homed.

The property was auctioned by agents Savills at Claridge’s Hotel, Brook Street, London in December 2010. It sold for £450,000 to an unnamed local developer and has remained empty since.

The eight-acre estate, which includes a 16,039 square foot Queen Anne style country house and three cottages, dates from the 17th century and was once owned by Thomas Price Phillips, LiberalMPfor North Monmouthshire and the High Sheriff of Monmouthshire.

The building, which has 38 single bedrooms, five shared and ancillary rooms, is not listed but lies within Brecon Beacons National Park.

Among the possible uses are commercial, tourism, sport and recreation, subject to planning permission.

Agents Cooke & Arkwright say potential uses could be residential school or college, hospital or convalescent nursing home. It would not disclose the asking price.

Cllr John Prosser previously said the loss of the care home was “sad” and it would be nice to retain the building.
