HALF term is almost upon us and there are plenty of activities across Gwent to keep youngsters busy in their week off.

People in Newport can get involved in a football camp run by Newport County, have a look at Rogerstone Library's 'Reading with Dinosaurs' or try their hand at sleuthing by becoming a history detective at Newport Museum.

A new addition to the city's half-term programme is family and junior golf sessions at Caerleon Golf Club, available throughout the week.

In Monmouthshire, free swimming activities for children under 16, including mini water polo, aqua olympics, pool inflatable sessions, and public swimming as part of an Assembly scheme.

Other water-based activities include snorkelling taster sessions and aqua jet and water walker sessions.

For those wanting to stay dry, all racket sports are £1 to play between 9am and 5pm.

In Torfaen, Greenmeadow community farm has a range of animal activities over the next week, including a 'cuddle corner' with some of the animals, ferret racing, bread and butter making and willow weaving.

Cwmbran Stadium is playing host to junior badminton, basketball and zumba classes during the week.

Over in Caerphilly, Cwmcarn Forest is holding several wildlife events throughout the week, Blackwood Miner's Institute has a suitcase circus performance on Thursday at 1.30pm.

Stargazers can stare into space at Cwmcarn Forest on February 25 at 7pm.

Beaufort Theatre and Ballroom in Ebbw Vale is giving youngsters aged three to six people a chance to get their hands dirty at Claytime on February 16.
