A GROUP of Polish migrant workers have been awarded almost £18,000 each after winning a claim that they had been underpaid.
The GMB union said an employment tribunal in Cardiff awarded more than £250,000 to the 14 workers, who were employed as laggers in the construction of the Severn power station at Uskmouth in Newport.
The union said the workers did not receive correct overtime or bonus payments, while their take-home pay did not tally with the amount on their pay slips.
GMB official Jeff Beck said the workers were "exploited", adding: "Hopefully, this award will send a loud and clear message to any unscrupulous employers."
