A “GOOD husband and dad” died after the car he was driving was involved in an accident in Newport on Saturday.
The A467 southbound was closed between Rogerstone and Bassaleg for around five hours following the incident at 1.24pm.
It is believed the man was 33 and from the Gwent area and he was pronounced dead after being taken to Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital.
Seven bunches of flowers were left tied to a metal barrier at the scene yesterday afternoon written to “Mike”.
One read: “You were way too young to go. You were needed still. We were only talking the other day about going to Florida all of us.”
It continued: “You were an extremely hard worker and wanted nothing more than to provide for your family and be a good husband and dad.”
Another read: “Uncle Mike, I don’t know what to say. I can’t believe you’re gone. Why, why did it have to be you?”
Another tribute simply read: “May you sleep with the angels. You will be truly missed.”
The driver’s green Renault Megane was the only vehicle involved in the incident, with firefighters working to cut the driver out of the vehicle. Following the incident, which happened near the Morrison’s roundabout, the road was closed in both directions.
A Gwent Police spokesman said this was due to a large amount of surface water, which was causing vehicles to aquaplane.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Gwent Police on 101.
