THE family of a man who died in a crash near Newport paid tribute to him yesterday.

Michael Harvey, 33, from Underwood, died when his green Renault Megane crashed on the A467 between Rogerstone and Bassaleg on Saturday afternoon.

Yesterday his widow, Julie, daughter, Kate, and stepson, Ashley issued a tribute to him.

The tribute said: “Mike you were my life, my soul, why did this have to happen to you? It’s going to be so hard without you in our lives. I love you so much and will miss you forever.

“Sleep tight from your loving wife Julie, Kate and Ashley x.”

The Argus previously reported that Mr Harvey was driving on the southbound carriageway at 1.24pm when the crash happened.

His car was the only vehicle involved in the incident, with firefighters working to cut Mr Harvey out of the car.

He was taken to Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Following the incident, which happened near the Morrison’s roundabout, the road was closed for five hours in both directions.

A Gwent Police spokesman said this was due to a large amount of surface water, which was causing vehicles to aquaplane.

Floral tributes were also left at the scene over the weekend. One read: “You were an extremely hard worker and wanted nothing more than to provide for your family and be a good husband and dad.”

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Gwent Police on 101.
