HELEN Shapiro, who shot to fame in the 60s at the age of 14 with singles Don’t Treat Me Like a Child, Walking Back to Happiness, and Tell Me What He Said, will be in Pontypool next month.

The international star has been going strong since 1961 and will be performing Gospel Outreach at Mount Pleasant Welsh Revival Centre, Hanbury Road, on Saturday, May 19, at 7.30pm.

Helen is a highly respected jazz singer who has performed with the likes of Humphrey Lyttelton and his band from1983 to 2001, and also with the BBC Big Band.

In August 1987 Helen became a committed believer in Jesus, and in 1989 she held the first of many Gospel evenings.

She has since released several Gospel albums, including Nothing But The Best, which features a duet with Cliff Richard.

Helen now devotes herself solely to Gospel outreaches, having come out of showbusiness at the end of 2002 after 42 years touring.

The Gospel Outreach will include a selection of worship songs, Helen’s story of finding faith in Jesus, and of course, the ever-popular Walking Back to Happiness.

Tickets cost £5 and are available from Arthur Crane on 01495 763899.
