NEWPORT’S Big Splash festival is set to return to the city for the third time this summer.

Seven ‘fun zones’ will be set up across the city centre as Newport is taken over by a host of indoor and outdoor events on the banks of the River Usk, John Frost Square, the Riverfront Theatre, Newport Centre and Rodney Parade.

Kicking off the weekend’s activities will be a giant Bhangra pop-up dance off on the Admiral Soundwave Stage on July 13, where members of the public will be invited to learn a choreographed routine and join in.

The evening of July 14 will see an aerial show, complete with fire and acrobats, taking place on the banks of the Usk, performed to the backdrop of live music from Sinfonia Cymru and electronic musician Zwolf, aka Tom Raybould.

Throughout the weekend, urban arts and activities for teenagers will be taking place at the Newport Centre with BMX tricks, a dance competition and free breakdancing workshops.

A host of free family friendly activities will be held in John Frost Square on July 14 between 12pm and 5pm, as well as free circus and theatrical perfomances at the Riverfront.
