IT IS with deep regret that I learn of the passing of a friend and colleague Mr Terry Underwood. I first met Terry in 1971 when photographing the New Venture Players, for the advertising weekly, the Newport Times. Terry’s enthusiasm for his numerous projects was contagious and uplifting.

His compilations of archive images were a welcome and refreshing boost, filling a much-needed gap in the heritage of the city and, at the same time, allowing the community to share and enjoy their past in pictures. Terry was an avid supporter of the Pill Heritage Centre, adding his special touch to a number of the most popular projects of that period.

He will be sadly missed, not only for his contribution to the arts but also for his effervescent personality which he freely shared with those who enjoyed his company. His love for our city knew no bounds. He was a Newport man, though essentially he was a Man for Newport.
