THE CHANGES in council procedures proposed by the leader, Cllr Bright, seem most sensible with the exception of the need for two more cabinet posts, which will add about £30,000 pa to the bill.

Many councils have a two-month meeting system and it works well. The same goes for pre-submitted questions though there must be some room for members to raise points at council.

But do we really need two more cabinet posts? I have doubts they will improve job attraction or have a big effect on the city or the town centre. These jobs should be undertaken by all cabinet members generally and the council as a whole. Again we will have to wait and see but on the face of it, it appears to be jobs for the boys.
