A BUDDING singer from Abertillery is receiving tuition from a top record company after impressing judges in a talent competition.

Macy Landon-Jones, 11, finished seventh in the final of the Open Mic UK competition at London’s O2 arena last year.

Her performance impressed one judge in particular who has now arranged for the Abertillery Primary School pupil to have singing lessons at his record company.

Macy’s father Gary Landon-Jones said that a week after the final, they received a call from Michael King, a co-owner of record company BGM, based in Farringdon, offering Macy the chance to have some coaching from his team.

Macy, who has also recently started guitar lessons, will be travelling downto the studios for the third time during the half-term holiday in June.

Mr Landon-Jones said it is hoped that Macy will continue to receive tuition from the company during some of the school holidays over the next few years.

He said, Macy, who has been nicknamed ‘Macy Moo’ and likes music by Jessie J and Duffy, has already written and produced two songs on her own with the help of the record company.

She performed one of the songs at an award ceremony on Thursday organised by Blaenau Gwent council.

The 11-year-old joined more than 60 other children from the borough who were nominated for a celebration of achievement of children and young people award.
