A NEWPORT teenager who battled cancer went back to school for this first time in more than a year this week.

Corris Davies, 13, visited classmates at St Julian’s Comprehensive School on Tuesday and met up with representatives of charity LATCH to hand over a cheque for £100 raised through a raffle at the school.

Corris went back to school for the first time since Easter 2011 as he prepares to integrate himself back into school life. It was a brief visit this week and he will start going to lessons after half term.

It is hoped he can return full time for the start of Year 10 in September.

The teenager, of Balmoral Road, underwent treatment for a Ewing’s sarcoma tumour in his right leg.

In October, he had an operation where a 12-inch piece of bone was removed from his right thigh, sent to a hospital in Birmingham and subjected to high-intensity radiotherapy, before being fused back on to his leg.

He has also gone through chemotherapy at the Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff.

His last treatment was on March 23 and he now has monthly check-ups and also goes to physiotherapy.

His mother, Sheila, 43, said: “It was really lovely, everyone was so nice to him. He’s really looking forward to going back - his friends have been very supportive.”
