A MOTHER and daughter from Tredegar will be taking part in their first ever Race for Life on June 24 in Cwmbran.

Brenda Griffiths, 55, of Park View and her daughter Zoe Griffiths, 33, will be running in the Cancer Research race at Northfields Recreation Ground, Croesyceiliog on Sunday, June 24 at 11am.

Both Brenda and Zoe volunteer at the Cancer Research charity shop in Tredegar and have raised around £1,000 in the last couple of weeks for pledging to take part in the race.

Brenda has been volunteering for the charity for a few months but said she wanted to do something really useful for such a great cause.

She said: " This is the first Race for Life for both me and my daughter. We are really looking forward to doing it together for such a brilliant cause.

"Cancer affects so many people, so we just wanted to do our bit to help them.

"We will be running in pink tutus with white leggings and our Race for Life T-shirt.

"I'm not much of a runner but will do my best. I may end up walking a lot of it but as long as I complete the race I'll be happy."

BrendaÕs daughter Zoe has lost two stone since Christmas and has been training everyday.

She said: "My weight loss will certainly come in handy for the race but I still have some more to lose before I reach my overall target.

"I'm really pleased to be running with my mum. It's something I've been meaning to do for quite sometime but never got round to it. Now, I will finally be able to tick it off the list.

"I can't wait, I want to go and run it now. Not to get it over with but just because I'm so excited by it.

"I don't want to leave my mum behind, I definitely want it to be something we do together, so we'll probably end up power walking round.

"I can't believe how much we've raised so far."

Store manager for Cancer Research in Tredegar Adam Carsley said: "We are all so proud of Brenda and Zoe. They have been amazing with their volunteering and I'm really looking forward to the day."
