A NEWPORT father of seven daughters has been nominated for the Argus’ Gwent’s Best Dad competition.

David William Ayres, 56, from Castleton, was nominated by his daughters, Julieanne, 34, Rhianne, 32, Rebecca, 30, Kristen, 29, Samantha, 26, Sophie, 22, and Chloe, 16, who described him as an “unsung hero”.

Julieanne Coles said: “He is kind, considerate with well-meant intentions and continuously puts his family first.

“He constantly showers us with an abundance of unwavering love, support and generosity.

He helps us in every way he can and has been a wonderful dad to us.”

Mrs Coles said her father runs his own business fulltime and still has time to care for his 15 grandchildren and wife Marianne’s parents.

Mrs Coles explained that Mr Ayres spent all day last week pressure-washing the family’s patio in the rain to make sure it was nice for her sister Rebecca’s wedding the following day.

She said Mr Ayres has been outnumbered by women but has always been proud of having seven daughters. Mrs Coles said her father has had some problems with his knee but puts that on the back burner.

“If any of us are in need of his help he comes straightaway, without a second thought. As a family, we are honoured, blessed and exceptionally lucky to have him as the pivotal figurehead of our family,” she said.
