A WINGLESS aeroplane transformed into a mobile arts space will visit Ebbw Vale next month.

Local artists and community groups will be among more than 2,000 to take part in 150 cultural activities in only four places in Wales led by Welsh artist Marc Rees.

Adain Avion – a mobile arts space created from the transformed body of a DC-9 plane will travel across Wales igniting the imagination for the London 2012 Olympics.

Adain Avion is one of 12 public art commissions created for Artists Taking the Lead, the UK Arts Council’s flagship project for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad which is the biggest cultural celebration in the modern Olympic and Paralympic Movements.

The plane will ‘nest’ in Ebbw Vale between July 1-7, for activities reflecting the history and culture of the area. People can join in by taking part in the Ghost Parade at the General Offices at 9.30pm on July 1 to mark the 10th anniversary of the closure of the steelworks by marching onto the site. The aeroplane will be towed as part of the procession.
