VISITORS to this year’s Abergavenny Food Festival can experience luxury camping with an Eastern flavour by staying in a yurt – a spacious Mongolian tent.

The organisers of the annual event, now in its 13th year, have teamed up with Shropshire-based Yurt Events to create a Big Canvas Village in nearby Mardy that can accommodate up to 100 people in Yurts, Wagons, Bell-Tents and in Camper van pitches.

Owner, Fred Ackroyd, said the village has on-site facilities such as hot showers with hair dryers and a shuttle bus to and from the festival, which is held on September 16-17.

He said:"We have several Yurts, five Bell Tents and three Wagons that are taken to Glastonbury and the V-Festival and are popular amongst the likes of Charlotte Church and Massive Attack.

Kim Waters, chief executive of the festival, said finding accommodation has always been a struggle.

He said: "The village, off the Old Hereford Road, is an exciting addition to provide some tented accommodation to attract visitors."

Mr Waters said the former caravan park is being donated by local businessman Steve Davies for the event.
