NEWS footage capturing the building of the Severn Bridge and its opening in 1966 can be seen at Chepstow’s Drill Hall on Wednesday night.
The rare footage from the BBC archive features journalist radio Wynford Vaughan- Thomas travelling along the River Wye, as far as Llanthony Priory, near Abergavenny.
The special screening – a collaboration between Chepstow Museum, BBC Wales and the British Film Institute – will show footage filmed 50 years ago of the Queen declaring the Severn Bridge open.
Viewers can also watch a pioneering outside broadcast from Tintern Abbey made in 1955 and interviews with the workforce at the Tinplate works at Redbrook, near Monmouth.
Steve Freer, producer and director BBC Wales, will be introducing the film selections and will put them into the context of TV history.
Out of the Vaults: Chepstow and The Wye Valley in Old TV will be screened at 7.30pm on July 4 in The Drill Hall, Lower Church Street. Tickets £3 from Chepstow Museum.
