It is great news that Newport City Council have seen sense at last and are looking at venues for a place to exhibit the Newport Ship.
However it should be remembered that the Newport ship is only an extremely small part of Newport’s maritime history and the industries that supported it.
Although I have always supported the exhibiting of the ship and will continue to do so, it must be only part of a larger exhibition with the other vessels discovered in and around Newport and the industrial side.
The ship itself was only a flash in the pan of our mercantile marine history as were the Chartists in Newport’s general history and that should be remembered.
I hope that Cllr Charles Ferris in his letter where he states: “We could keep the Newport Ship inside an area of inflated fabric engineering” means such a museum.
