THE 'Welsh Cavalry' or Queen's Dragoon Guards escaped the axe today as cuts to the army were announced.
The 2nd Battalion, The Royal Welsh is to go, however, as one of 17 major units to go in a re-structuring of the force, Defence Secretary Philip Hammond told the House of Commons today.
Other units to go are the 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, the 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, the 3rd Battalion the Mercian Regiment. The 5th Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland reduced to a public duties company, Mr Hammond said.
